Mr. Sjogren is currently Tribal Court Prosecutor, serving the Bois Forte Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians of Nett Lake, MN enforcing tribal criminal, juvenile, traffic and conservation ordinances. Mr. Sjogren has drafted domestic violence codes and assisted in drafting the civil ordinances. Tom has recently re-drafted the Tribe’s conservation code and provides courtroom training for tribal police and conservation officers. He acts as liaison with state courts, county attorney’s office, human services and local law enforcement regarding jurisdictional issues, juvenile delinquency, child abuse, child neglect, dependency, and domestic violence; spousal and elder abuse. Mr. Sjogren has been practicing law for over 30
years. He has been an assistant county
attorney for over 15 years and works with Indian Legal Assistance
programs. He is the judge for the Mr. Sjogren has been a facilitator for Council Lodge Institute, Inc. since 1990 providing training in all aspects of Federal, State and Indian Law; Child Abuse, Domestic Violence; Spousal and Elder Abuse, Indian Child Welfare Act, Child Protection Team, Alaska Native Court Procedures, Criminal, Civil, Child Protection, Juvenile Delinquency Court Procedures and Fish and Game Enforcement. Mr. Sjogren has legal expertise in the areas of criminal defense and prosecution; domestic spousal abuse, elder abuse, child custody issues (including ICWA), child abuse & neglect, child support, parentage and adoption proceedings, juvenile delinquency, divorce, personal injury, civil rights, contract, corporate law, employment issues, probate environmental law, appellate review, tribal sovereignty, tribal courts and drafting tribal codes. Mr. Sjogren was assistant legal counsel for the Human Services Department and Head of County Attorneys Juvenile/Welfare Division of Carlton County. Supervised staff and investigators for juvenile delinquency, child neglect, dependency, termination of parental rights proceedings, handled all appeals, coordinated programs with local law enforcement, prosecutors, juvenile court, human services, school and medical providers involving reporting, prevention and treatment of offenders and victims.
